Funding and Support

Best Friends Sanctuary is a Non-Profit 501(C3) with an organizational structure of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Donations are tax-deductible, as allowed by law.
We are 100% donation dependent, which means we depend 100% on the generosity and giving of the community to be able to function.

Throughout the year, we also compete with many other non-profits for grants. Our Spay/Neuter Grant is our biggest, most important, and supports our Mission. If a Grant is approved, it comes with strict guidelines on how the funds may be used. We comply with and must report the usage of every dollar of those funds, every year. Our impeccable, consistent compliance is what enables us to obtain our vitally needed grant money.

However, grant funding, although vital, is never enough. Without the generous donations from our community supporters, we could not provide this very necessary humane, community service to you. We have a few wonderful donors who support us, financially, on a monthly basis. Others donate much needed time/food/supplies. All donations, of every kind, are essential and help up stay open and functioning.

Additionally, we are always grateful for donations of the following items, to help support the sanctuary:
-Pedigree Adult Dry Food
-Pedigree Canned dog food
-Purina Puppy Chow
-Durable dog chew toys
-Cow hooves
-Pet leashes
-Pet Collars - all sizes

Our Volunteers

On August 17, 2001, Best Friends Sanctuary was then, and remains today, a 100% volunteer-run organization. Every person affiliated with Best Friends is a volunteer and no one gets any salary or compensation of any kind. We work for our love of the dogs.

Our volunteers are the backbone and heart of Best Friends and without them, we could not function. The dogs need cleaning, feeding, walking several times a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year…..even on holidays, snow days, hurricane days, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Without our loving, dedicated volunteers this would not happen. THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS – YOU ARE CHERISHED!!!!!

We are always looking for more good people - compassionate folks with love in their hearts and a desire to help relieve the suffering of the helpless, hopeless, and homeless pups living in our county. If you have a few spare hours a week to help make a difference, a BIG difference in the life of a dog, let us know. They ask for so little and there are many ways in which you can help.

You can make your own shelter schedule or support the shelter in other ways, from home. Give us a call and let’s be creative! We need your help to be able to better help them!!
